About
Hi, I’m Peter and am married to Shiree and we have 2 adult sons. Ben and his wife Sue, along with three of our lovely grandchildren, live in Auckland. Steve and his partner Anj, both pilots based in Sydney, are raising our two other wonderful grandchildren. Having grown up in a large family (7 siblings) I have long appreciated the importance of our connections. While I spent 23 years as a dairy farmer I have always had a passion for relationships – whether it be parent/child, the couple relationship, extended whanau, with friends or colleagues, the relationship we have with ourselves, or how we choose to relate to the spiritual. It is these connections, I believe, that give our lives meaning and value.
While I come from an Attachment, Narrative, CBT and Systemic perspective, my pragmatic farming and Dutch ancestry leads me to follow what best fits for the person or people I am having the privilege to journey with. I believe that when people are offered support, when that support fits for them, and when hope is regained, people will find the resources they need to work through almost any issue they are confronted with.
As well as supervising other counsellors and professionals some of the areas I am experienced in working with include:
- Bachelor of Counselling (with Distinction)
- Post-graduate Certificate in Professional Supervision
- Certificate in Tertiary Teaching (Poutiriako)
- Certificate in Child Protection Studies
Experience
- Approved Family Court Counsellor
- Approved ‘Hot Monogamy’™ Facilitator
- Approved Prepare and Enrich Facilitator
- Approved Strengthening Families Facilitator
- Completed Sex Therapy NZ Foundation Course
- Completed Externship in Emotionally Focussed Therapy
