About
Hi, I’m Shiree and I grew up on a dairy farm in the Waikato before my family shifted onto a 10 acre block just out of Hamilton when I was 6 yrs old. In my late teens I trained as a Beauty Therapist and I worked in this field for nearly 18 years. I was a business owner/ operator at a clinic in the Mount when I met, fell in love, and married a dairy farmer from the Waikato (Peter).
Peter and I had both come from loving families and were interested in what helped create happy, healthy families and successful relationships. So in 2003 we both decided to sell the farm and begin counselling degree’s in Tauranga.
Peter and I have two grown boys who have lovely partners. Our eldest son and his wife have blessed us with five beautiful grandchildren (they are one of the reasons I try and keep fit!). We enjoy being outdoors and relaxing with family and friends.
Our training covered Client Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Narrative models of counselling. Since completing my degree I have completed courses in Interactive Drawing Therapy, Sex Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples.
I enjoy working with a wide variety of people and love helping people to see themselves and their problems from a different perspective - I find problems change when people can do this as well. I get particular satisfaction from working with couples and I love to see the changes that can occur when couples are able to identify and deal with those things that are damaging their relationship and hurting both of them.
I help them to: identify the patterns in their relationship that are causing them not to feel close, to communicate in a way that brings greater closeness, and to heal the wounds from the past. I also really enjoy the way young people think and I relate well to teenagers and children. I worked in a High School for a number of years and have worked for Relationship’s Aotearoa for 5 years where I worked predominantly with couples, teenagers and families. While at RA I specialised in parent coaching. Peter and I have now been working privately from our home in Welcome Bay for over 10 years.
People never cease to amaze me with the knowledge and wisdom they have and I feel privileged that my job allows me to work with them to uncover these resources.
