About Me
I was born in the Waikato area where I spent my childhood years before moving overseas with my whanau. While abroad, I studied Psychology before moving back to New Zealand. I have lived in the wonderful Bay of Plenty for the last eight years. After completing my Masters in Arts Therapy, I worked for a community mental health organization, Te Puna Hauora Ki Uta Ki Tai, a Kaupapa Maori service in the Bay of Plenty area which uses a whanau ora approach - meaning that alongside my work with my client I also worked with their whanau (families) and any other organizations involved with the client/whanau.
Since leaving Te Puna Hauora, I have worked in private practice and currently provide therapeutic services on behalf of a range of agencies. These include: Bay of Plenty Therapy Foundation, Bay of Plenty Sexual Assault Support Services (BOPSASS) – I am ACC registered (Integrated Services for Sensitive Claims), Oranga Tamariki, and I am Hope. I am also WINZ disability for counselling approved and accept referrals from private clients.
I work primarily with children/tamariki and youth/rangatahi, aged 5 to 18 years old, from an arts therapy perspective which allows the use of the creative arts, such as poetry, music, movement or the visual arts as a way to express emotions and communicate thoughts and feelings without the need for words. I approach therapy from a strengths-based, positive psychology perspective, supporting a person on their journey to a point of wellbeing.
