About
I am the founder of Aspire Therapy and have lived in Tauranga, for the past ten years. I’m originally from the North of England , UK, but now consider New Zealand home and celebrated becoming a NZ citizen in 2018. I have met some amazing people and made good friends since settling here.
I have worked in the field of therapy since the 1980’s and have over 30 years of experience working with children, young people and their families. This includes developing services for children in the UK and NZ. Ongoing professional development is important to me, to ensure I can offer the best service to those I work with. I have trained in the U.K, New Zealand and Australia.
Building a therapeutic alliance is essential and I specialise in working with children, young people and their families experiencing emotional and mental health difficulties. I provide support to individuals. families or groups.
I am passionate about making a difference and realise that not everyone is able to talk easily about their experiences. Working with horses is an experiential way of working through “stuff”. Equine Assisted Therapy is an alternative to talking therapies and I am certified in the eagala model www.eagala.org
I am ACC registered (Integrated Services for Sensitive Claims) and I currently provide therapeutic services on behalf of a range of agencies. These include: Bay of Plenty Therapy Foundation, Bay of Plenty Sexual Assault Support Services (BOPSASS), Victim Support (Specialist homicide services), Oranga Tamariki, and I am Hope. I also accept referrals from private clients.
Cultural Training and Supervision
This is an area of special importance to me. I receive regular cultural supervision to enhance my practice. I completed my Te Reo Māori Level 2 (36 weeks) and have attended training in the use of Te Whare Tapu Whā model, Cultural Awareness in service “Pacific Special” & partnership work using Te Ara Model.
Ongoing Professional Development and Supervision
Safe practice and continued professional development are important to me and I strive to ensure that professional standards are met.
I provide clinical supervision to practitioners from different disciplines including social work, counselling and occupational therapy. This includes those who are providing services to ACC (ISSC). I currently provide supervision to colleagues in NGO’s, independent providers, and the DHB.
