Barbara Rockel
I began my professional life as a NZ Registered Nurse and Midwife, ten years after graduating, I made the move to primary health care as a Practise Nurse. Four years later, counselling and then psychotherapy was the outcome of my increased involvement at community level. During the early years of work at the mental health level, I became involved in providing teaching input at Tauranga Hospital for parents and their newborns – that challenging experience of moving from being a couple to meeting the needs of the new family unit. My professional roots became well grounded in developmental theory and the knowledge that the health of an individual is largely dependant on early life experience and relationship with caregivers.
My professional life as a Registered Psychotherapist has been in private practice – mostly here in Tauranga - where those I see for therapy, are interested in long term work to enhance, facilitate or restore states of wellbeing, so they might find increased satisfaction in their lives and relationships.
