Personal
I have lived, been educated, worked and brought up my children in the Manawatu. I left the Manawatu for Tauranga in 1995 to join Bay Counselling & Therapy Service.
The fields I have worked in include the helping field as a volunteer, a trainee counsellor, a Director of a Social Service Agency, and a Therapist at a residential treatment centre. I now enjoy being a resident and practitioner in the Bay of Plenty.
Of equal importance has been my life experience I served an apprenticeship as a carpenter/joiner and have left many concrete/timber and brick monuments scattered throughout Wellington and the Manawatu. Having done this for 5 years I formed a company and became a sheep and cattle farmer for 18 years. During this time I became increasingly interested in my own personal development. I served another apprenticeship during this time by becoming a client in psychotherapy/counselling. A painful and rewarding experience. An injury to my back thrust me into considering what would I do financially if I could not rely on my body to earn me a living. So training began in earnest.
Further adventures in life were to unfold. Commercial Fishing the Kimberly in Western Australia when the 180 tonne Valali we were on sunk, after successfully riding out Cyclone Awesome. Then "bugger it" in the same 12 months, while sightseeing in North America the plane I was in crashed over the Grand Canyon. P.T.S.D therapy was required and completed. To this day I still break into a sweat while flying.
Sport has always been a way of relaxing. Rugby at senior level, Indoor Basketball, Cricket, attending the Gym is still being pursued to this day. Drinking beer with the guys, telling lies and generally yahooing is essential to my philosophy of life. I believe life is to be lived Not Resolved Nor Endured. This is central to my philosophy.
I will never be rich, never be famous, but I am grateful to the process of life for my understanding of having lived the way I have lived, and the further adventures life has in store.
